Leaders In China Reject Progressive Future

Xi is purging.

In the last eighteen months, Chinese schools have been instructed to shun Western values. This has involved directives from the education ministry, censorship of books, and shaking down academics. Xi believes that Chinese thought should be rooted in the classic tradition of China. These acts are reported in the Western press without any self-awareness. Western universities select for progressive orthodoxy, purge non-believers and wrong thinkers and tightly control what is published, promoted, and taught. China is giving the same direction, but in opposition to progressivism; it’s just a bit more overt, as far as the eyes of Western media are concerned.

Wonder when the progressives will get upset about this. Maybe never.

This does not just apply to the academic realm.

Chinese authorities have “banned all depictions of gay people on television, as part of a cultural crackdown on “vulgar, immoral and unhealthy content.“” This is not simply about homosexuals, but since the West adores homosexuals for now, this is the worst element of the ban. Extramarital affairs, underage relationships, homosexuality, and perversions are now banned, as well.

I wish Samuel Huntington was still alive to opine on what this portends for the future. Will the various non-Western civilizations develop even greater immune responses to Western ideas? Picture a future where Chinese biomedical advances make offspring far less likely to do things the leaders find morally objectionable. Political differences will be amplified by offspring genetic engineering.

They are now starting to openly resist (((Western ideas))). Of course, China doesn't have a (((liberal media))) so that makes a difference.

This sort of parallels what is happening in Russia, a general repudiation of the West. It also reinforces the tendency for Russia and China to form an anti-Western, especially anti-US, alliance. One is reminded of Mackinder's theory that whoever control the Eurasian heartland controls the world:

Seems sensible enough. Getting on the train with respect to science and business works out well, but why imitate or promote the socially harmful stuff?

Well, I do agree with the Chinese authorities having banned all depictions of gay people on television. If gays want to be gays, fine with me. If gays want to marry, no problem with me either, but there's no reason to be promoting homosexuality on TV or schools either. Sometimes that promoting becomes forcing upon.

Equal rights for all those boys and men who are not and do not want to become homosexual. When straight boys want to go buy clothes, all they now find in stores are the women's and the gay (so-called "men's) sections. When you want to buy a man's deodorant all you find is all those pussy sweet-smelling scents of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. When you go into the bathroom, what do you get instead of a soap bar?? Right! sperm-looking liquid soap with coconut scent. Even at home boys and men still have to put up with having to wash the clothes with all those fresh spring scents in so-called detergents. Young boys having to put up with all sorts of textbooks and classrooms filled with gay propaganda all over their walls and pages.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the Chinese authorities in this regard. For decades Western media has shown no social responsibility whatsoever. Let's stop promoting homosexuality and forcing it upon those who don't want to be gay. Besides, there's no "gay" gene. Homosexuality is not genetically-caused, so let's leave homosexuality as a personal choice for people, not actively promote it as the "cool" trend of nowadays.

It's also a large part of what has been happening in the Middle East the last few decades. When the West was still more or less guided by Christian mores countries around the world wanted to imitate their success, when it went off the rails in the 1960s a resurgence in Islamic fundamentalism began to take off. I remember Dick Cavett mentioning decades ago a conversation he had with an Egyptian who told him they learned how to act in life by watching Humphrey Bogart, by watching Western movies. No more.

It isn't actually the opposite direction. The orders can always be changed after you've established they have to be followed. The key isn't what the orthodoxy will be, but that there will be one enforced.

All those depictions of gay people on television is motivated by profit, not by ideas of equality. So their motive is not a legitimate one.

Brett Bellmore said at June 28, 2016 5:59 PM:

On the contrary, they've pretty well established that the portrayal of gay people as a large fraction of the population, rather than 1-2%, is costing them money. They know that they'd make more money off family friendly films and TV series.

I'm not sure "principle" or "ideals" exactly describes the motive for this, but it sure isn't profit.

Good posts, Brett.

China shows the way.

Enough with gay people trying to impose their orientation on others. Lots of presidents and prime ministers are now gays. I hope the whole world won'b become run by gays, or if it is I would just as for respect and laws against conditioning children. There is no "gay" gene.

Brett Bellmore said at July 7, 2016 3:14 AM:

No, but there are certainly "heterosexual" genes, and sometimes they don't work right.
