Will American Speech Rights Decay?
We've lost some freedoms to progressive reinterpretations of the US Constitution. The Commerce Clause, for example, has been reinterpreted to grant the US government much more extensive regulatory power. The Takings Clause has been gutted at the expense of private property rights. Free speech seems like the next most likely battleground over rights.
YouGov's latest research shows that many Americans support making it a criminal offense to make public statements which would stir up hatred against particular groups of people. Americans narrowly support (41%) rather than oppose (37%) criminalizing hate speech, but this conceals a partisan divide. Most Democrats (51%) support criminalizing hate speech, with only 26% opposed. Independents (41% to 35%) and Republicans (47% to 37%) tend to oppose making it illegal to stir up hatred against particular groups.
I expect erosion of speech rights in the United States because the nation will shift left in its Presidential choices and those future Presidents will make Supreme Court appointments that are much more leftward leaning. Academia has already become much more hostile to dissenting views. The judiciary will follow as the ideologues trained in academia get appointed to court benches.

Immigrants will put leftists in power and they will gut the First and Second Amendment. America has already been destroyed in the name of race, starting with the destruction of the very real civil right of freedom of association by the so-called Civil Rights act of 1964. You can have diversity or you can have freedom, you can't have both, and in the future the only way you'll regain freedom is with a gun.
For every cowardly nation there's always a dictator. The United States will continue growing into a dictatorship in a direct and proportional way to the growth of the people's cowardice.
In any country the decay in rights is the barometer with which to measure the bravery of citizens. "Home of the Brave"... don't think so, maybe a century ago or so.
When you'll regain your freedom, is something you will not get to see, for besides bravery people need some intelligence which has also been lost a while ago.
When Hillary threw in her flats in the ring for the Presidency, one of the first issues she addressed was amending the first amendment to get rid of Citizen's United. So she wants the power to eliminate criticism of her (Citizen's United was about showing an anti-Hillary movie on Direct TV). There was no outrage, and in fact, no real response at all to that proposal. So if a major Presidential candidate can off handedly recommend eliminating the First Amendment, then it won't be around for too long.
The sacredness surrounding the 1st Amendment has gone from a liberal thing to a conservative thing in recent decades. It's astonishing and depressing to watch this unfold.
