Feminism Making Women Unhappy

Gavin McInnes on feminism's negative impact on the happiness of women.

“We’ve trivialized childbirth and being domestic so much that women are forced to pretend to be men. They’re feigning this toughness. They’re miserable,” McInnes said in part during a contentious and expletive-laced exchange on a HuffPost Live panel on Monday.

Not sure whether McInnes has the cause exactly right but the happiness of women has been on the decline from a much higher level in the 1950s and women are now less happy than men.

The problem as I see it: the short term incentives pull in directions that lead away from long term happiness. So I do not expect some great dawning realization to pull women back toward life trajectories that make them more happy in the long run. The hypergamous instinct will cause women in their 20s to delay commitment, marriage, and children as they turn away from settling. The drive for a career will do the same and will leave many women unsatisfied. I do not see a solution.

We are not in the environments we evolved in. If we are happy it is to a great extent by luck.

our cultural goals, mores, expectations etc have long been molded by the corporate media. The media gets its revenue from corporate advertising purchases. Therefore the media is effectively a spokesperson for the corporations.

The media pushes the ideology that favors the interests of corporations. The media aint biting the hand that feeds them. Simple self interest. The more profits and revenue that corporations make, the more ads the corporations buy from the media.

What ideas favor the interests of corporations? Ideas that increase revenue and profits of corporations. Simple self interest.

What ideas tend to increase revenue and profits of corporations?

Ideas that tend to get more consumers into america.
More consumers means more revenue.

Ideas that tend to get more cheap labor into america.
More cheap labor means more profits.

That is why the media favors mass immigration and feminism. More consumers and more cheap labor.

Feminism promotes ideology that tends to push more women into the workplace. More consumers, more cheap labor. Supply and demand of labor. Same for mass immigration. More money for the corporations means more money for the media.

Follow the money. Always follow the money.

as an addendum to my comment above, the USA is basically being run as a livestock operation with the aim of increasing corporate revenues and profits. We are the livestock. And livestock aint generally too happy...unless we are on the sofa cramming our face with Cheetos. Er, I mean at the feeding trough cramming our face with oats...or whatever....
As long as the rancher keeps that feeding trough full of cheetos, the livestock won't jump the fence. They won't be happy, but they won't jump the fence.

Women in the western world have vast freedom, choices, and privileges. They can have a career, have a family, or both. They can choose to be independent and support themselves, let someone else support them, or have The State support them, or some combination of options. Marriage and divorce are institutions designed for their benefit. Society protects women and gives them special preferences to promote their success and keep them from failing. Society does all it can to minimize or transfer the negative costs and consequences of women's decisions. Women have absolute control over reproduction. Even if they don't earn it, women control over 70% of all disposable income.

...and it's not enough. When your wants and needs are insatiable, you will never be satisfied.

I liked your final sentence -- it is a poignant and accurate description of our situation.

A lot of people who see the world you same way you (and I) do don't want to have children because we don't want them to have to make their way in this broken system.

I'm fascinated by the way that women were originally persuaded to accept feminism; most women of the late 19th and early 20th century were repulsed by the idea that they should neglect their own children to pursue some sort of career. Since women are by nature unimaginative and imitative, it was done in much the same way that Christian fathers persuaded men to be celibate for the Priesthood. First, you deride and belittle men who are married, or who spend time with women. Then, you extoll the supposed virtues of life without them, often appealing to some sort of mystical fulfillment of their true nature (citing an imaginary "soul" ).

"32 ...He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife."

Women got the same treatment. First, married women and mothers were belittled ("why do you want to be the slave of some man?"). Then, an imaginary equality was invented ("women are identical to men!") women were then exhorted to be like men in every way imaginable.

Of course women are miserable. Except for a very small number of women who would be better off unmarried, none of them are able to express their actual natures.
