Sunni Fighters Flood Into Syria: Terrorist Haven
Another Al Qaeda nation in the making in Syria?
BEIRUT, Lebanon — As foreign fighters pour into Syria at an increasing clip, extremist groups are carving out pockets of territory that are becoming havens for Islamist militants, posing what United States and Western intelligence officials say may be developing into one of the biggest terrorist threats in the world today.
In the Middle East we do not get to choose between dictatorships and liberal democracies. But the believers in the biggest secular religion in America continue to act like they offer a vision of a society that has universal appeal. I think they can't imagine how large numbers of people who aren't Republicans could possibly disagree with their vision.

The liberal-left really is like a religion. Its adherents, like those of any other religion, believe they have the One Perfect System for all of humanity. Like the believers of any other religion, they cannot possibly comprehend the notion that there are people who want nothing to do with their vision.

Yes true, but biased.
Same happens with the conservative-right. It's really just another religion. It's sad to see how political orientations seem more like religions.
The fiercest debates are generally about things where there's not much evidence of claims in either direction. Politics is a lot like religion: just another system of beliefs and of suppression of uncomfortable ideas. That's why they both get along so well.
Both right-wingers and left-wingers love to repeat the same idiotic mantras: "God bless America" and "one nation under God", or "Obama is the Antichrist" or "Bush is evil." Meaningless stupidities like those.
The west has been systematically undermining the fledgling secular states in the middle east. Then we act surprised with what replaces them.
Randall, I have a theory (posted it last night) that we killed Osama Bin Laden becuse we were going to use Sunni jihadis, who would be al-qaeda branded fighters, to topple the secular autocrats non-aligned with the US. Can you imagine the media selling the US supporting al-qaeda in Libya/Syria if OBL was still alive? People don't like it now; they'd hate it.
