South Africa Becomes Net Food Importer

The democratically elected government of South Africa is forcing white farm owners to sell to the government which turns large white-run farms into many small black-run farms. One result is that food production is dropping.

The South African government vowed to carefully investigate land claims and provide fair compensation to white farmers. Many of the country's 40,000 white farmers willingly sold their property.

Even so, the effect on the country's agricultural economy has not been overwhelmingly positive. Whereas the global trend is toward larger, more commercially successful farms, South Africa is breaking many of its large farms into smaller, less economically efficient pieces to meet the claims of new black farmers.

Partly as a result, South Africa in the last year has gone from a net exporter of food to a net importer. And, in another worrying trend, some of the whites who sold their farms have been recruited by other African countries, where their skills are much in demand. Now once-impoverished countries such as Mozambique are becoming more self-sufficient -- and taking a share of South Africa's export market.

Since the trend of pushing whites off the farms will continue South Africa's food production will decline and the parallels to Zimbabwe will increase. Since the more talented younger whites mostly have left or will leave the real crunch is going to come as the older skilled whites get too old to work and die off.

Zimbabwe shows where South Africa could end up.

Zimbabwe's farms are ruined, its economy has evaporated, and its people have begun to starve and die of cholera. What better time to call a feast? According to reports in Zimbabwe's domestic press on Thursday, President Robert Mugabe and delegates to the annual conference of his ruling Zanu-PF Party will chomp their way through 124 cattle, 81 goats and 18 pigs over the course of their deliberations in the central town of Bindura.

South Africa starts from a higher position and therefore has further to fall.

Is it really that hard to train good farm mangers? I mean farming is a pretty easy science.

It's pretty obvious that you never did it.

Grim, it has everything to do with the African mentality. As a primer, you might want to read the following account, written some five years ago about the disaster that is still unfolding:

http://greatsalandscandal.blogspot.com/

My belief is that it has little to do with feeding African blacks or empowering them. Ir has more to do with getting rid of all whites as soon as possible. And from their persepctive if that means returning to a Stone Age level of subsistence living, so be it. The slaughter of millions of Africans by their fellow Africans has never been a moral problem for them. Witness all the African nations who refuse to call for Mugabe's overthrow as they watch his people dying by the hundreds of thousands, grubbing in the dust for a few bugs to eat. If it doesn't bother them, why should it bother us?

There is a reason that Africa -- home of the earth's oldest civilizations, the richest land and mineral deposits -- rose to a Stone Age level of subsistence living and went no farther. Having traveled the world for over 35 years I have learned that peoples in other lands follow radically different thought processes.

And the perception of unintelligibility is mutual. Ask an African what he thinks of white women collectively and deliberately extinguishing their entire people and culture by killing their fetuses or preventing pregnancy. To them it is utterly bizarre (although the ones living in the West are usually too nice to say that).

In both cases respect of these fundamental differences is necessary. You don't see Africans sending rescue missions to reeducate Western white women, do you? To teach them not to abort their own babies and culture into oblivion, do you? Likewise if Africans are more concerned with getting white people out of the lands they control even if it means starvation of their own people, I see no reason for the Wewst to intervene and "educate" them. If Africans want to educate other Africans to manage farms after expelling white people, fine. If they would rather revert to a Stone Age life of subsistence living, that is fine also. White women abort their babies en masse to reduce the white population. Africans starve their babies to reduce the African population. The moral difference is ... ?

In any case, it shouldn't take more than a handful of years more.

Read "The Africans" to find out how this story ends. Then read Thomas Sowell's "Migrations and Cultures", if I have the title correct, and Amy Chua's "World on Fire" to read about how once these societies are in the toilet, they beg for the talented group to come back. A few gullible ones return. A generation or two down the road, the pogroms begin again.

I tend to wonder if the reason why the Americas were colonized successfully by the Europeans is because they started them at the end of the 1400's when our civilization was at its peak whereas the colonization of Africa, starting over 100 years later, occurred when we had become much softer. Successful colonization requires an extremely strong and patriarchal society. China is patriarchal, but not that strong, at least just yet. It will be interesting to see how that story ends.

Doesn't look that way to me. Which parts of Africa?

I have lived in South, East and Central Africa for 25 years so I can write of what I know and not spout some ideological garbage. If you read about the Meyer farm and the gardeners claim to it on the basis of gravestones and have the least belief in the validity of it, you must surely also believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden and father Christmas. Gravestones is strictly a European custom and all those evil racists would insist on it if any of their staff
died whilst in their service. Another custom practiced by the evil white farmers at the time was to provide their employees with land for a hut where they
could keep a few goats or chickens, when the staff was to old to work, their children often took their place to provide for their parents who continued to live there.

Just re-reading these comments, the one that really needs to be addressed is the first one by Grim. Farming is indeed a pretty easy science. All you need to know to be a good farmer is some biology, crop, soil, climate and veterinary science, production planning, labour management, economics and finance. It is almost impossible if the farmer and family are not prepared to go at it 24/7 and if know all that and you and your family are willing to put in all that effort a run of bad luck can still wipe out a lifetimes hard work. That is precisely the reason that agriculture in South Africa has started its long downward spiral. The reason there are so many Indians and East and South Africa is that they were imported in the heyday of the Empire because the local Africans could not be relied on for continuous work, they worked till payday, partied till they ran out of money and only came back when they were broke.

SA has plenty of mineral wealth, there is oil in Nigeria, diamonds in Sierra Leone, valuable ores in the Congo area. There is some pretty good farm land in SA, Mozambique, Kenya and other places. Stuff grows realy well if you are diligent and know what to do. However, the indigeous population is too busy killing and eating each other.

Good point, and Im sure some on the real left probably feel that way in their most private thoughts.

I think Big Bill has a point.

For Whites, imagine if we lived amongst a super-race that had fairer skin, more finely grained, with perfectly symetrical facial features. What if their average person had an equivalent of a 175 I.Q. ? What if things that took us a long time to ponder could be understood instantly by them ? What it projects that were hard for us, could be done with a wave of the hand by them ?

That's how we look to Africans. They hate us. We make all their hard work look like junk.

We have got to get away from each other. Somehow, we have got to get away.
