East Hampton NY Symbolizes American Decay

A town with a huge concentration of wealthy summer residents is deeply in debt. Just like America.

East Hampton, one of the main towns on the eastern end of Long Island that make up the Hamptons, is burdened with a deficit that could exceed $12 million. And that has become a rich source of irony, given the community's spectacular wealth and its concentration of Wall Street money-management talent.

The United States as a whole has a deficit of about a half trillion dollars.

East Hampton has a demographic profile that billionaires love. Half the workers are illegal immigrants below the poverty line. The wealthy are getting domestic help as cheap as it can come within the borders of America.

East Hampton which includes such hamlets as Montauk and Amangansett and parts of Sag Harbor has about 21,000 year-round residents, but its population can swell to 80,000 or 90,000 in the summer, when the haves and the have-mores show up. "There really are two Hamptons," said McGintee's predecessor, Jay Schneiderman. "The disparity between rich and poor is probably unmatched anywhere in the world. You have the heads of multinational corporations, billionaires, but of the year-round population, half the work force are undocumented immigrants living below the poverty level."

This is the America of our future unless we stop the influx of Third World immigrants and unless we stop running massive budget and trade deficits.

The sad thing is that liberals of the bleeding heart variety want to raise federal and state taxes to coddle the poor illegals who are abused by the wealthy. Not only do we wind up losing our jobs when they replace us, we have to pay to take care of our replacements so the ycan continue to provide cheap help for the wealthy, AND we are called "haters" for not welcoming them with open arms.

That seems quite likely (and one can argue that it is already happening):

"The sad thing is that liberals of the bleeding heart variety"------------are usually "whiterpeople" who hate working white people and working black people more than anything else on earth, even global warming, therefore they are happy to see them economically distressed and their birhrates plunging. Serves them right for you know, going to chuch, acting modest, not being members of Amnesty International, not watching arthouse movies, not patronizing the local used bookstore/coffeehouse, not shopping at whole foods, etc.

Hint: billionaires care about price of domestic help no more than you'd care about price
of a toothpick. Do some arithmetic.

What wealthy people care about is *quality* of domestic help - like, not needing to tell
everything five times in a row to get the simplest things through, not having to search
for misplaced things, being able to rely on discretion and reliability of service.

It is nearly impossible to hire a qualified butler - at any price. Novadays people who
have IQ sufficient for the job think that being a servant is demeaning.

> coddle the poor illegals who are abused by the wealthy

How, exactly, are illegals abused by the wealthy? Did I miss some news about millionaires
forcing poor illegals to work or kidnapping them and bringing them to America?

The reality is, of course, that these illegals are much better off working at menial jobs
in US than slowly dying from malnutrition in their native countries.

If anyone abuses the illegals it is governments - in their own countries, by destroying the
local economies with socialism (sometimes of cannibalistic variety), and in US - by keeping
these poor people in constant fear and driving them to the underground (and thus often
semi-criminal) business.

The bleeding heart liberals are mostly abusing their fellow citizens by forcing them to
participate in the "charity". Cannot really blame the poor, confused, and often illiterate,
illegals for accepting that charity when more than the half of natively born "legals" do
exactly the same and even consider it their "right".

But Randall, the current economic orthodoxy - preached by the lumps of shit at the WSJ and 'The Economist', is to actually encorage this process even further by abolishing all immigration and trade controls whatsoever, by referring them to supranational, unaccountable, undemocratic bodies such as the WTO and the EU.
The unfortunate fact is 'our' lickspittle, brainless politicians think it is 'clever' to listen to the shit-heads.

Averros,
I remeber how your own wonderful Mr. Yeltsin (untermentsch scum who should have been beaten and worked to death by the Germans, if the world wasn't a f*cked up place), reduced your own proud country to a shambles and the world's biggest brothel), with his 'market reforms' proposed by 'clever Harvard Economists'.

Shit, what a crisis!

Societal unrest and the trial, conviction and execution of the filth that is destroying the US can't some soon enough. I'll bring the rope.

"...and in US - by keeping

Probably the most clueless thing ever written here. You are smarter than that. Not too many illegals "underground" these days. If only. They are everywhere, living in garages, on the bus, riding their bikes around, in restaurants, living in cemetaries, driving drunk and killing people, committing crimes, using social services and registering to vote:

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/charges_filed_after_voter_fraud_probe100.html

Underground indeed!

Peter - how did you figure out that I owned Mr. Yeltsin? I never thought that this will leak out. Besides, the guy wasn't half bad (despite being an alcoholic he managed to steer the country from the brink of hunger to a place where many people actually want to live - though I do not think you understand what "hunger" means). Oh, an he is the only elected head of state known to the history who outlawed the communist party (on a second though - that may be precisely what bugs you about him, comrade).

Now go take care of your own Mr. Bush, he's a serious embarrasment to the entire species of Homo sapiens.

Spackler -

> You are smarter than that.

No, I'm smarter than you. Simply because I'm not a bigot. Maybe that comes from some exposure to cultures not revolving around toilet humour and comics strips. Your English needs improvement, too, - check the dictionary for the meaning of the word "underground". I'm afraid you failed to learn that it does not mean living in a sewer all the time.

And, yes, really, do you believe any junk they print in newspapers? How about using a brain? What an illegal immigrant would gain by risking his precarious position by going to vote? A chance to get a speedy interview with "migra"?

This is simple vote fraud by the quite "legal" local politicos. Buying votes is an old and hallowed democratic tradition. In fact, every election is nothing more than a sort of advance auction on stolen goods.

C. Spackler said at August 12, 2008 6:15 AM:

averros,
Hysterical. I don't about being smarter, but your comments are funnier. Insults are always great. You'll have to explain the "toilet humor/living in a sewer" to me though. But thanks again for the laugh. See you in a sanctuary city, maybe "underground!"

Big Bill said at August 17, 2008 5:05 PM:

Averroes, nobody is abusing the illegals. What I recited for you was the liberal narrative ("poor illegals working at jobs no lazy Americans want to do, living in the shadows, abused by evil capitalist taskmasters in the USA, hounded by heartless INS agents and bigoted militiamen", etc.) I thought it was apparent, but I guess not.
