Have any American media reported about the racially motivated attacks on white by blacks in New Orleans?

No. I've been watching NBC, CNN, and Fox all day and all I've heard is complaining from black activists and white liberals about racism against blacks. One black guy on O'Reilly whinged about the word "refugee" being racist and some unsubstantiated rumour about whites being rescued while blacks were left behind. I've not heard a single reference on US television to the race of the attackers and the harassment of whites in the Superdome. It's almost like in the Soviet-bloc countries where the people had to read between the lines. At least the early pictures of looting got through (I suspect they won't be shown as much in future for PC reasons) so most of the public should have some idea who's causing the trouble.

I don't normally watch TV news programs, but last night I felt the need to get a visual, not just verbal, picture of what was going down in New Orleans. CBS Evening News devoted an entire hour to the subject, although after 40 minutes or so I'd had enough.

The central facts of devastation and suffering were visualized clearly. For all the valid criticisms of TV news that it focuses on events that are telegenic and emotional, there are times when that's what must be done. We needed to see this, although the motives of people who watch the destruction of a city and the misery of many of its inhabitants for hours and days seem much like those of gawkers at a car crash.

I have to confess that it was not long before my empathy began to be crowded out by irritation.

First, there was absolutely no mention of the looting except in the words of one young man who was interviewed. He said that looters take television sets, but he took food for his family, and wrote down all the items -- so that the government could reimburse the store.

For those deluded souls who get their information only from CBS Evening News (and there are still many such), the aftermath of Katrina had no criminal dimension. It was all about victims, the modern media's equivalent of saints.

Second, it quickly became evident the program had a theme -- the failure of the federal government to act fast and effectively enough. Not the city or the parishes or the state, which legally and morally had the most responsibility for preventing and ameliorating the effects of a rare but predictable calamity, but the demons in Washington. Especially the demon-in-chief, President Bush.

Interview after interview with the victims, almost all black, was much the same.

Now these people had had a very rough time of it. It's human to feel anger, even irrational anger, under the circumstances. And granted, no one is at their best in the midst of their life's wreckage. But even taking that into account, the majority of them struck me as abysmally stupid and self-centered. Almost unable to speak a coherent sentence, other than to Blame the Man.

Maybe the CBS news teams and tape editors had selected these individuals to score points against Bush, and they weren't representative. But it was hard not to think that what we were seeing was the population segment that remained when most people of even average intelligence had heeded the warnings and gotten out of town or made provisions for their safety before Katrina hit.

In other words, the storm had flushed out the permanent underclass who stayed behind because they were too unimaginative or stoned to take care of themselves when they could, or expected that they could steal to their heart's content in the aftermath of the storm, not understanding what destructive forces were about to descend. I remember particularly the interview of an 18-year-old girl with her child (or one of her children) -- no mention of a husband or even a boyfriend -- caught in a sudden disaster that eclipsed the slow disaster-in-the-making that was her life.

I've never been to New Orleans, but it is a place of the imagination that some of us will always take to heart in spite of the city's crime-ridden and dysfunctional underside, and perhaps now the permanent destruction of everything that gave it atmosphere and distinctiveness.

"Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?" sang Louis Armstrong. Yes, now more than ever.

New Orleans has been home to the criminal and corrupt for several decades, if not its entire existence. Its French culture combined with an african majority, guarantees that organization and competence will take a backseat to the need to enrich oneself at society's expense. No wonder the permanent underclass has adopted the same mentality as the government officials themselves have.

As for black on white racism, that is simply a festering sore waiting to erupt in virtually every location in the world where there is a black majority and white minority. New Orleans is merely a particularly egregious example of black resentment fanned into flames by circumstances and an extreme disparity in numbers. The same thing happens in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and ghettoes of latin america and the developed world.

A lot of the "left-behinds" were both poor, old, and sick. Those are the people who should have been rescued, if only the local authorities had any competence or ability to plan ahead. Many of those old, sick people died, most african american. Some of the looting is understandable in terms of needs for food, water, dry clothing, and survival supplies. People looting luxury goods should be punished with "extreme prejudice".

Right now, the issue is not so much the qualities of the New Orleans people, race, etchnicity, class, etc., but more importantly, WHAT the people will do in the event of a major disaster that disrupts the government authority in the first place. There will be instant reversion to primitism, and a situation like in the post apocalytic Mad Max / Road Warrior movies. The United States has been spreading itself too thin like the Roman Empire, its forces are a mile wide but an inch deep. What must be done is to start a national project immediately ($100 billion per year), which will be called the "Bronx Project" instead of the Manhattan Project, to quickly implement the fast breeder reactors to achieve total energy independence within less thann 10 years. Clearly our current government is worse than useless in this area, for the oil companies are certainly interested in slowing down any major effort to replace the oil dependence.

You are so wrong. Mental exercise: Imagine that New Orleans was populated by Japanese people. Imagine this hurricane had hit. Would they be looting TV sets, raping, and murdering? Homey don't think so. Homey thinks they'd be extremely well behaved.

...FOXnews w/ Geraldo Rivera at the convention center just showed a group of about 10 Vietnamese who'd been there for the duration and Jerry Rivers was gushing with praise for the group's self-control. The Vietnamese graciously allowed everyone else to evacuate before themselves. Probably partly because they didn't want to get stabbed.

This is raw evidence of the above claim made by Randall. Non-blacks in these circumstances would deal with the situation in a calm orderly manner. The entire episode has been exponentially exacerbated by the race of the victims. Blacks under duress crack quickly. The ghetto blacks are apparently about 48 hours from a feral state at any given time. They are apparently anxious to rape, loot and burn about 48 seconds after police protection vanishes.

The site of grotesquely obese ghetto mamas screaming into TV cameras that they were starving to death was unreal.

The Superdome did not need to become the Terrordome. Let's see where the Terrordome Diaries are published.

You're right about the Japanese compared to the blacks. I was living in Tokyo when the Hanshin quake happened in '95. There was very little looting or violence, even though the government response and recovery was bungled even worse than with New Orleans (it took over a week for the Japanese government to do anything at all following the quake). Another comparison would be with the Netherlands flooding in the 50's.

There is a distinct difference between "northern" and "southern" people. Northern cultures have traditionally been orderly with a certain amount of law and order (the cultural revolution in China is the notable exception) where as anarchy and "strong-man" rule has been the usual pattern for southern cultures. Although in the the U.S., New Orleans has always been a "southern" culture city in terms of culture (French and African-american), politics, corruption, and history. The bout of anarchy and lawlessness that occured during the past week came as no supprise to me.

I fervently believe that strict limitations or even a complete, idefinite moratorium should be imposed on immigration from the "southern" world into the U.S. What I have seen on the telly during the past week has reinforced this viewpoint.

I have been radicalized by the Battle for New Orleans, more so than 9/11 or 7/7 (London). I had said to someone, it would be an uncomfortable experience being a member of the white underclass stuck in the Superdome. It was worse than we could ever have imagined.

I was content to be a grumbling middle-road conservative who criticised multiculturalism amongst safe colleagues but how can we not speak out after this? I started to blog the instant (!) I read white liberals at Slate lamenting how blacks were being hit hardest by Katrina and none of us self-satisfied whiteys care. I was disgusted! Since when did the Left abandon the white underclass? (This just in: Census Bureau release data on 30 August that whites are the only group in the US to see an increase in its poverty rate.) Since when did the Left not care about unprotected minorities?

I am fuming mad that the unholy alliance between white liberals and black activists are going to try to spin Katrina to make blacks the only victims. Poor whites and poor blacks were left behind in New Orleans because they were poor and the predominantly-black leadership of New Orleans made no preparations for them. Moreover, once the rule of law was lifted, a wave of criminality swept through the black majority who was targeting lone whites for rape and murder.

And what does the MSM do? Repeat the inflamatory mantra, from Jack Cafferty to Matt Lauer: "just because they are Poor and Black." The shameful unconcern that white Liberals for the white underclass constitutes depraved indifference.

Probably some. Certainly more than middle or upper class whites. But nowhere near as much as lower class blacks.

Media coverage has been terrible. There were many whites left stranded without food or fresh water in NOLA's white majority suburbs. You never see them on television however. I doubt they've formed armed predatory gangs and showing hungry dehydrated whites on TV would distract from the media's "Amerika is Killing It's Blacks" theme anyway.

The propaganda will have to intensify once it becomes apparent that perhaps thousands of unnecessary deaths have occurred in NO, because Bush and Blanco were primping their images for respect of black power; hesitating for days to overrule the black mayor, and aid the endangered. It may be that thousands died unnecessarily, because Bush and Blanco were afraid of being called racist, but had no worries at all that they would be caught sacrificing all those people for political image manipulation's sake. I was raised not to be racist, and I'm not. My parents never said anything bad about black people, in fact, they had many black friends. 1) Referring to your remarks connected with my statement above, I would like to explain the misunderstanding that I may have caused. What I mean is that even though it is true that most of the violence in New Orleans was done by the Blacks, this was because they became absolutely the lowest paid members of the society, and their lack of education and the cultural shortcomings were due to this socio-economic phenomenon. And the JAPANESE are more disciplined and likely to follow the law, is certainly because they have a socialist sytem (no typographic error here)where the truck drivers are getting paid only about 4 or 5 times less than the executives, and that the median level of education is rather high. 2) But my MAIN point was something else: Having acknowledged the "badness" of the current situation in our society, I have only made a prognosis of how much worse it will get if we allow it to get the raw materials and trade deficit dependency (especially energy) to get out of hand. We have a prognosis that can make the Great Depression look like a picnic, because this time we might get a horrific mixture of deflation and inflation (deflation of salaries and income and work, combined with inflation of all raw material prices, which would be even worse than the Great Depression), and at that precise moment, the events of New Orleans and Viet Nam would look like a mild misunderstanding in high school.

I was not surprised at the rioting in NO, I figured it would be worse. The undercalsses (especially African American) alienation from society is vastly underrated. Im sure the white undeclass would in situations like the convention center be almost as bad If there is ever a situation of apolactic(sp) proportions, savagery will return almost immediately.Our civilization is extremely vulernable We have a huge population dependent on a long vulnerable, complex supply chrain. To a certain extent NO is a preview of what is coming. If a disaster like NO happens in a large northern city in the winter the death toll will be huge, half million?.
One last note I did not think the coverage of TV was biased at all I thought it well balanced factual and informative. I see no reason to emphasize the lawlessness, it is just a unpleasant sideshow. I personally thought Conservative FOX was extremely good as well as CNN.
The important point is the vulernability of modern cvilization.

There is a very good reason why such a large proportion of african people fail so miserably in modern societies, and carry so much resentment toward people who succeed. It is so obvious that one would need to be blind not to recognize it. Yes, the permanent underclass whatever the race would behave badly in situations where law and order break down. Nevertheless, wherever one looks in the world, wherever there is a significant number of african people, they occupy the lowest rung on the ladder. Murder rates are higher. Corruption is worse. No, the problem is not due to centuries of being "held down" or other manifestations of racism. The problem exists wherever significant populations of africans exist, regardless of their recent history. People who fail resent people who succeed. There is a reason why people fail. It is not racism.

I agree that resentment plays a crucial role in explaining what happened in New Orleans. Relative levels of success are more important than absolute levels of success in explaining how successful people feel. You would both benefit from adding more facts to your reasoning. You are really just guessing how much of the behavior of different groups is due to, say, the legacy of slavery or other causes. I find your guesses wrong for the most part but well within the range of what is politically correct to believe. You ought to read up on twins research, trans-racial adoption studies, psychometric research, and other relevant areas. I do not think the body of existing research supports your beliefs.

I deleted a couple of posts. I have no consistent rule on what I delete. You can find old posts on my site with Muslims proclaiming their desire to kill us all. To some extent I want some views out there and viewable because I want people to know what sorts of sentiments that others hold. This is why I even wrote the post. I wanted to show just how much hostility and willingness to act on that hostility there is among blacks toward whites in America. I oppose PC censorship of the truth because I find it highly damaging.

I think we can learn something from what happened in New Orleans. I think it has implications for the demographic future of America. Since different groups achieve different levels of success on average resentment between groups is going to play a growing role in politics as whites decline as a percentage of the total US population.

Some projections put whites as a minority by 2050. They are already a minority in Texas right now. We ought to pay attention to the inter-racial conflicts in the United States, Latin America, the Philippines (with Filipino violence against Chinese), and other places around the world. Amy Chua has documented this in her book World On Fire.

Marvin, I think you are on to something but you don't take it far enough. Anthropologists
will tell you that early man bifurcated some 40-60,000 years ago. With the original group
of homo sapiens remaining in Africa and another group leaving and forming the other racial
groups existing today.

Evolutionists and molecular biologists agree that organisms change in response to their
environment. Different genes within our DNA express themselves or are silenced depending
on what environmental influences the organism faces. A cell can increase the production
of an enzyme a thousand fold depending on what factors are present in the body.

It is not unreasonable to believe that the people of today descended from the non African
stock of humanity developed genetic differences other than different skin, hair and eye
color from the the branch of humanity that remained behind in Africa. In effect non African
peoples have the benefit of some 2000 generations of trial and error for life outside the
continent of Africa. Part of that genetic heritage may explain the higher IQ scores non
Africans consistantly demonstrate over African populations.

Then there is the social conditioning that you mention. If you observe pure bred dogs e.g.
you will notice behavior traits that are not taught but are, somehow passed down through
the breed. Irish setters 'point' when they detect game in the brush. Border collies herd
sheep. The mechanism by which such behavior traits is passed from generation to generation
is something of a mystery but that it exists there is no doubt.

Western man and people from the South Asia and the Far East have lived in far more complex
civilizations for some 2 to 4,000 years longer than what existed in sub Saharan Africa.
Just as breeds of dogs exhibit behavior traits that make them more valuable to their
'society' be it as hunting, herding or even fighting dogs so too it is not unreasonable
to predict that behavior traits will develop in humans that make them more successful in
human societies. Thus a person of European of Asian ancestry may well be more suited for
the large complex societies of today by virtue of their ancestors having lived in larger
more complex societies than what an African experienced until very recently.

The problem is that while we want to hold that all men are created equal the truth of the
matter is that all men may not be equally adapted to live in modern society. While we can
accept that there are inherent inequality between individuals it does get sticky where the
inequality exists between groups and it is a large inequality. That is if, say 10% of
whites are likely to fail in modern society and only 5% of "Orientals" will that is a
distinction but one either group can live with and compensate for. However if, as it appears, something like 50% of Africans are likely to not have the social or intellectual
skills to prosper in modern society we have a problem particularly where the African
failures also exhibit tendencies towards antisocial violence.

I am appalled at the singling out of children for rape and murder. I am appalled at the singling out of anyone for rape and murder. I am further appalled at a crowd of 20,000 who stood by while murderers and rapists committed these acts instead of banding together for mutual protection.

Even if the criminals had guns, how many bullets can a clip hold? Something tells me far fewer than 20,000.

That the veneer of civilization in America is much thinner than people realize,and that we need to do a lot of work to prepare for collapse of the electrical grid. I am not concerned as you about racial differences. Partly why is that I worked for 35 years on the west and south side of Chicago (chicago public scjools)where I was always a minority. I soon learned that idiots come in all colors and genders. The only thing I know about NO is a teacher went there from our very rough school and said it was much worse. Incidentally at hte one intergrated high school I worked at the Mexicans and the white kids hung together even though all 3 groups were almost numerically the same. I now live in South Florida where my daughter tells me her promotional chances are hndered by not speaking Spanis. She now carries a conversational spanish tape in the car. Good post. I'm a Democrat, very liberal in terms of my class consciousness, and the first vote I ever cast was for Jesse Jackson in the 1988 California presidential primary. I'm not a racist. But I will not pretend that blacks can't be racist or that the vast majority of interracial violence is black on white. So it irritates me that the media will as usual ignore the racial character of so much of the anti-white violence, particularly in the "refuges" of the Superdome and Convention Center. It's a struggle for me, but it wouldn't be so difficult to maintain the values with which I was raised and in which I still believe, if I didn't have the distinct feeling that their is a media blackout of this story as a distinct phenomenon and worthy of discussion in and of itself. I think that is a huge explosive story that has been reported better in the provincial cities of Melbourne & Manchester better than the metropolis of New York.

I am outraged when bias-crimes are committed against my tribe and no-one gives a toss; it's like our lives are of less news value.

The superdome and convention center scenes actually represent a government schools' vision of the ideal society. Sharing, equality, mass altruism, uninhibited vice, nonjudgemental tolerance of depravity, and freedom for aggression; all of these were powerfully promoted. That the majority would ask for freedom from aggression is called racism; and from this, among other indications, one can derive the definition of racism that is official . It would seem to mean that by which the freedom for aggression of the black man, or, more generally, the tropically adapted, is resisted or retaliated against. Actually violent racial hostility of blacks against whites, though is not to be reported as racism. It is this way with the government professoriate before it is the media usage.

This all points out how we suck as a country in a time of crisis. If all people are doing is sitting
at home and looking for reasons to justify racial stereotypes, then this will always happen. The news
media feeds this whole perception, turning the victims into the enemy. THe news media was turning in
reports of so many rapes, murders and shootings when NONE OF IT WAS VERIFIED. In a time of crisis like
this, you cannot spread panic and chaos by reporting every rumor or story that you HEARD from somewhere.
Therefore, one story about violence or a rape spreads like wildfire through a convention center crowded
with victims and guess what, starts a panic. On top of that, the story snowballs and becomes exaggerated
and twisted and becomes blown out of proportion. So if any of this really happened, where is the victim of

The news media SHOULD follow up on this, especially if this is what has been used as justification in causing

twisted out of control? Therefore, until the situation is calmed down, I will treat ANY reports of EXTREME violence
as UNSUBSTANTIATED rumors until all the facts come in.

And lets face facts, black people face the same types of violence everyday in every major city in America. Is there
a national crisis in those cities? NO. Since they are isolated in the ghettos of these cities, it is easy for those
in the suburbs not to care. Blacks by and large are not going out hunting down white folks to commit crimes and that
is another reason why they dont have to care. But as long as black people are the ones suffering, who cares. So if
some whites got caught up in the violence, it is sad. But it cannot be looked at out of context in a situation where

The fact that black on black violence is even higher does nothing to mitigate the implications of the interracial statistic. The story regarding the 4.5 year old's corpse in the trash can was attributed to a named eye-witness who witnessed the situation while seeking a safe refuge at the terrordome. The eyewitness received the information regarding the manner of the child's death directly from the child's family. However, the tally of murders, rapes and suicides by the National Guard after evacuating the facility strikes me as frightful and horrific regardless of any rumours preceding the tally.

Having noted the discrepancy between the 64 times vs. Marvin's 20 times, I dug into the figures a little deeper. It appears Marvin used the ratio of the likelihood a black will murder a white. That is, on average, blacks are 20 times as likely to murder a white as vice versa.

England and Wales have the highest crime rate among the world's leading economies, according to a new report by the United Nations.

The survey, which is likely to prove embarrassing to David Blunkett, the Home Secretary. shows that people are more likely to be mugged, burgled, robbed or assaulted here than in America, Germany, Russia, South Africa or any other of the world's 20 largest nations. Only the Dominican Republic, New Zealand and Finland have higher crime rates than England and Wales.

According to the comparison of international crime statistics produced by the UN's Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention, England and Wales had 9,766 crimes for every 100,000 people in the year 2000. America had 8,517, South Africa 7,997, Germany 7,621 and Russia 2,022.

During the period 1998-2000, Britain went from fifth to fourth worst in the world league table. An analysis of total recorded crime figures before 1998 also suggests that England and Wales have moved sharply up the league table since Labour came to power in 1997. Crimes fell from 5.5 million in 1993 to 4.5 million in 1997. By 1999, total crimes had risen again to 5.3 million.

Last night Oliver Letwin, the shadow home secretary, said: "This does rather blow a hole in David Blunkett's claim that New Labour has crime under control. It is a damning picture."

The UN reports also shows that England and Wales are the second-worst places in the world for assaults, with 851 people assaulted per 100,000, and seventh for burglaries and car theft, with 1,579 burglaries per 100,000 population.

Criminologists believe that a note of caution needs to be introduced into analysis of the data, because of the different ways in which UN member countries record crimes.

A Home Office spokesman said that officials had not yet seen the report and so could not comment.

To scream and holler about so much violence, without direct proof and evidence that can be used in a court of law, is BS.
If you saw it, you are a witness and if you DONT go to court to have the perpetrator put in jail you are talking to talk

While blacks are allowed to complain and state all sorts of negative generalizations about whites the opposite is considered politically incorrect and racist. We live in a massive lie. The media engages in censorship such as avoiding mention of the race of criminals in order to avoid having the public know the extent of the racial difference in crime rates. We are lied to and then told if we speak the truth we are racist. No wonder a lot of white people are quietly angry.

Even if qualifiers get inserted into sentences we will still face disapproval for stating the truth. The bottom line is that the left-liberals in America deny that there are racial average differences in the propensity to commit crime or in the willingness to form a civil society and engage in altruistic acts toward non-family or in the ability to master physics or medicine or any number of other cognitively demanding jobs.

The lies do harm. When racial differences in ability are ignored to let less intelligent people into medical school then the eventual result is higher rates of malpractice with patients harmed and killed. When companies have to hire and promote less competent people then the companies run less well and average living standards are lower than they otherwise would be.

Perhaps some day there will be an explosion similar to that in Yugoslavia. For decades ethnic differences were covered up and starry-eyed European leftists talked about how Tito had solved the Balkan ethnic problem. Looking back one can see that the elites were well aware of it, that's why so much effort was put into maintaining the reconciliation fiction. I think we have some bungled reporting here: the story seems to imply that the tiny Dominican Republic is one of the world's 20 largest nations(if they mean economies this is also obviously wrong). Also, I find it hard to believe that Finland has a high crime rate-the Washington Post recently had a series praising Finland as a model countryin almost every respect. If the DR has a Finland-like crime rate it is probably becuase the citizenry realizes the futility of reporting crime to the local police.

If any sort of felony occurred in the superdome, including rape, murder or assault and there is no one
being held on account or no investigation being persued, even now with thousands of local, state and
federal law enforcement officials in New Orleans, then SOMETHING IS WRONG. There should be multiple
investigations ongoing for any act of rape, murder or assault that can be verified. You mean to tell
me that with 20,000 people in the superdome, there were NO witnesses? On top of that, you mean to tell
me also that there were NO cops around? What about the National Guard? What did THEY do? Come on people
this is not about black or white, it is about the government DOING THEIR JOB in a crisis. And they still
arent doing it. Somehow, even more appalling than the act itself, is the idea that the authorities HELPED
the perpetrator get away, by not gathering suspects and persuing an investigation immediately, before the
mass evactuation started. Even now, with people spread over 10 states, there still should be an investigation
to track down the suspects. They are even reporting that the body of a "possible" 7 year old rape victim is in
the freezer of the convention center with her throat cut. 1) Why arent ANY of the massive State/Federal/Local
police officials looking for any sort of evidence to convict the perpetrator 2) Why hasn't the mother of the child
been found and identified? This is another example of how law enforcement has failed the people of this country.
I mean they are patrolling an empty city, but cannot figure out how to investigate the crimes that may have been

You assume much. First, why do you assume nobody is investigating these crimes? If they are investigating them, do you suppose the investigators stop frequently to publish updates? From my readings, the police intentionally withhold most details of crimes from the public 1. out of a sense of propriety, 2. as a means of verifying the accuracy of witnesses who come forward later, and 3. to avoid tainting the jury pool.

Second, if the police are delaying the investigations of these crimes, don't you suppose they might do so to maximize the available manpower for saving people's lives? Don't the needs of the living weigh heavier than the needs of the dead during a time of such monumental crisis?

Third, the body of the 7 year old boy was reported as having been found in a freezer, which is not the same thing as saying it remains there, and it was a 14 year old girl whose throat was cut.

All you are saying is that a hysterical black lynch mob attacked (and probably killed) a white male. Quite obviously you have no proof who raped the seven year old, but blacks are more prone to sexual deviance of all types.

I ASSUME that the police EXIST precisely because people CANNOT be trusted to always do the right
thing. That is why the police are there in the first place. It is irresponsible for the authorities
to have upwards of 16,000 people in a crowded shelter and not have police/national guard there to
insure the security of the evacuees. On top of that, after all, this was a big city, where murder,
robbery or assault were everyday occurences. So how can you act as if something like this MIGHT not
happen? All of what you say are lame excuses for the authorities not DOING their job. And yes,

The point is that the authorities ALREADY know that black crimes are disproportionate to their
numbers in the population. They ALREADY know that blacks commit a large amount of violent
crime in the U.S. The FBI, DOJ, state and local agencies already compile the crime statistics
and make it available to the public. On top of that, they ALREADY knew that a hurricane like
this could happen in New Orleans and they should also have known that crime and looting would
probably be an issue. The point is that given all these facts that they ALREADY have, they were
unprepared. No need to act as if the authorities dont know about crime statistics and the percentages of crimes committed by blacks (mostly against other blacks), because they do. They
dont NEED someone to remind them that blacks are the largest prison population in the US, they know
that. So the point is they just need to DO THEIR JOB in an emergency and protect the innocent
and prosecute those who break the law, white, black, puerto rican, chinese or otherwise. This is
not angry or irrational, this is a response to those who seem to act as if the Government is deaf,

One of the problems here is that officials get credit rather than blame for assuming that a crowd of thousands of blacks in those circumstances will behave no worse than other populations. The evidence for group average differences in cognitive abilities and behavioral tendencies between the races and lower level groups is enormous. If you want to examine that evidence then a good place to start are the Rushton and Jensen papers at this link and Gottfredson's paper is worth reading too.

I could point you to many other references if you wanted to examine the evidence. But if you want to hang onto a belief in the Blank Slate as a matter of secular religious faith then I can't help you.

I have always considered myself fairly liberal but must admit I am very discouraged and concerned about the obvious media censorship of some of the recent events in New Orleans. I have family in England and have read many different accounts in the British and Australian press about racist threats made to tourists staying at the Superdome. Many women reported being groped and sexually threatened and all stated they were under constant fear of attack and singled out because of their race (caucasian). They had the sense to band together in one area to afford some protection but as the racial slurs and threats of violence intensified they felt in fear for their lives. I read these accounts in a wide variety of British and Australian press. There was no lighting at night and they reported hearing women being raped at night, screaming with no one to help them and several reported witnessing rival gangs shooting each other. They reported threats escalated on their last day, rumors of a white man raping a black woman started circulating, and threats became more frequent and aggressive. Several credited a national guard soldier with saving their lives by removing them on their last night, ten at a time, breaking the rules by evacuating them with the medical evacuees, fearing they would probably be murdered if they stayed there another night. I've no doubt these accounts are true, they were reported by too many different individuals, not connected to each other apart from being in the Superdome, from different parts of both countries, to be fabricated. Then I watch Fox and Shepard Smith is getting irate because white people were evacuated before blacks. No mention was made that these white tourists were under constant threat of attack because of their race and were evacuated because their lives were in jeopardy. I have not seen one report of this in the US media, only in the foreign press. I think this is a disgrace as it perpetuates the idea that these people were given preferential treatment because of their race, not because they were in danger because of their race. I can't imagine, as widely reported as this has been overseas, that none of the media in this country knew what was really going on. Racism is not a sin exclusive to white people and the sooner we all admit this the sooner we can do something about it.

The censorship also worries me about what else is not being revealed. One of the tourists reported a man in a wheelchair being threatened by thugs who said they would kill him, presumably because they thought he would be evacuated first. The horrific photos of mutilated bodies at the convention center included a photo they couldn't show as it was too disturbing, of a man in a wheelchair who had been murdered and mutilated. They also reported finding the body of a 7 year old with their throat slit. An initial report of a seven year old being raped and murdered was dismissed as urban legend. Apparently the photos that came out were taken secretly which makes me wonder how much of what was dismissed as rumor may turn out to be true. The media needs to tell the whole story as the truth will get out eventually and will hopefully not be as ugly as some of the unconfirmed reports that are starting to surface.

Pretending people weren't rescued because they were black is ensuring more hatred for years to come. There was a terrible incompetence, no question, but the local government bears a lot of the blame. Since the mayor himself is black I doubt he was out to hurt his predominately black citizens, but if he was doing his job properly there would have been portable toilets and water already in the city before the levees broke. He and the governor don't appear to be on the same page which doesn't help in a crisis and I think the federal government was extremely slow in evacuating people out of the hell holes they were being sheltered in. The national guard and military should have been sent in straight away, once the thugs started looting and got all the weapons out of Walmart and the pawn shops, the lunatics took over the asylum. The looting was disgraceful and while food is necessary and understandable, guns, TVs, jewellry and designer clothes are not. Once the thugs started shooting at the police, fire department and emts, they succeeded in delaying life saving help for thousands of people and while everyone shares the blame, they deserve the lion's share. If they hadn't taken over people would have gotten basic survival needs taken care of much faster and been able to band together and help each other, as most people usually do in these situations and as some did despite the horror of the circumstances, on a much greater scale resulting in far fewer deaths. The chief of police has confirmed that rapes, murders and mutilations of bodies took place at both places and the police force made 30 trips to the superdome to try and restore order but were far outnumbered. He said that he himself was nearly taken hostage but 15 of his men surrounded him and got him out. He cried when he spoke about it and seems a good man faced with an impossible situation of being outnumbered and outgunned by thugs. He said they sent in 88 cops in groups of 11 and were beaten back. They couldn't just start shooting as there were civilians, children and babies all around, but knowing the atrocities that were occuring and not being able to respond broke his heart and may explain why two police officers committed suicide. Many reports on the internet say the rape and murder reports are all fabrication and racist propaganda. Well the chief of police himself is black and he wouldn't be confirming these events if he wasn't sure they had occurred. For the media to keep referring to this as a "racist" issue about whites not caring about blacks and blaming the president, is to totally whitewash the problems that made this disaster so much worse.

Shepard Smith's anger at perceived favoritism of whites was on O'Reilly. The NO Chief of Police was featured on CNN and Fox. If you want to use the main points in my letter that's fine but please don't use my name. There are too many nuts out there and I don't want to put my family at risk by drawing media attention. I don't agree with racism, I actually think it's a sin against God, and obviously nothing in my letter is racist but I know how quick some people, especially the media, are to twist things around. If there's one truth to be gleaned from this foray into insanity after Katrina, it's this: the track record of Blacks running any city, state or country is NIL. The few blacks that are in leadership positions that do NOT take advantage of the system for their own (and their cronies) political gain is MINIMAL. History is the proof.

Let me begin by saying that I feel a deep sadness for all victims of Katrina, and particularly those who had to endure the horrors of the Superdome and Convention Center, regardless of their race, class, or creed.

I live in the zone of devastation caused by Katrina (McComb, MS). My problems (tree on house, no power for 11 days, ice and gas shortages, no employment, etc...)have been minor compared to the suffering endured at points south and east of here (a vast understatement). So what if life has been effed up. I'm fine, my dog is fine, as well as all my family and loved ones; many of whom are New Orleans residents that had the good sense to flee the city BEFORE the storm.

Being a native of the area, I feel obligated to add my perspective to this conversation. I am a white southern male from Louisiana and Mississippi. In the minds of many in my own country and in the international arena, that is enough for me to be instantly stereotyped and labeled as a bigot and racist, which I am not. Everyone deserves a fair shake, but it is a falacy to ignore the kick in the groin that reality sometimes delivers.

I love New Orleans, and I love to see the tourists come from all over the world to visit and enjoy such a vibrant & unique city, but it has been well known for a long time that there is a very dark underbelly to the city. Every year tourists are killed because they haplessly turn the wrong corner and walk into a part of the city where many (especially whites) know not to go (Hint: these places aren't in the white ghettos). Even my most liberal friends who live in the city know this, even if they are loathe to speak of it. There are many fine black people everywhere, but there are also many who return kind words or gestures with stares of cold hatred. It is known that there are people in our communities who would kill us if they could. It doesn't matter to them how liberal or opened-minded you are. They will not ask you what your views on equality are before they slit your throat. New Orleans has been the scene of many hate crimes, and apparently the Superdome has been the venue for America's latest Superbowl of Hate Crime.

I've been close enough to hear about "THE BIG ONE" that would destroy New Orleans all of my life. The debate has been ongoing for years about how and if the city should evacuate, and to where. The possibility of this kind of meyhem in the Superdome has been whispered of for a long time, but no one really wanted to come out and say it publicly because it was not "politically correct." I wish that I had been there to warn the group of tourists as they stood in line to get in the Dome. I'd tell them, "You'd be better off in the streets." No one I know in their right minds would have considered seeking shelter there. I doubt any of the tourist guidebooks written for travellers in New Orleans say "If your there when the Big One hits, GO ANYWHERE BUT THE FUCKING SUPERDOME!" (Side Trivia for the Guidebooks: The Superdome is reputedly cursed because it was built on top of an old burial mound. At least that's one of the excuses we Saints fans often use.)

I have a lot more to say about this, but I'm not going to do it all in one sitting. Let me sum up my points so far:

1) The events in the superdome do not suprise me at all. It sucks that I have to seek out foreign media outlets to find out what's happened in my own country. Thanks to the Brits, Aussies, and others who aren't afraid to speak the truth.

2)Political Correctness is a poisoned elixer that has been served up to the citizens of my country. It's promise of peace and unity is a lie that has brought only a complete inability to tell the truth and death. To my brothers & sisters over in Europe and elsewhere: Y'all 've been swilling it to. It can be misleading to say that a black is 64 times more likely to attack a white than vice versa in the context of a conversation on racist violence. Given that whites are substantially more numerous than blacks, and that blacks commit dramatically more crime per capita in general, we would expect a high ratio even if black criminals selected their victims at random.

According to the DOJ blacks commit murder at about 7 times the white average rate, and compose about 13% of the population compared to 75% for whites. Given a random distribution of victims for all murderers the black-on-white murder rate should be 40 times the white-on-black rate, not 20 times, weakening the prima facie case for increased racist violence on the part of blacks. Of course, black criminals will often be in closer physical and social proximity to black victims, explaining part of this disparity, but the headline figure is still misleading.

Instead one might look at the proportion of crimes committed against group X by group Y out of all crimes committed by Y versus the proportion of group X in the population. Looking at "the Colour of Crime" violent blacks commit a little over half of their violence against whites, who compose 3/4 of the population, while whites commit about 3% of theirs against blacks. Compared to a Utopia of color-blind criminals, beating and killing all races equally, we find that blacks attack whites at ~66% of the expected rate, while whites attack blacks at less than 25% of the expected rate. This is still an impressive difference, but a lot less shocking than the "64 times" figure which combines increased rates of black criminality, the low black proportion within the population, and tendencies for black criminals to strike outside their race in the face of countervailing factors (proximity, social distance reducing crimes of passion/jealousy-motivated killings) when only the third factor is specifically related to racial animus.

I think you are underestimating the extent to which blacks have to go out of their way to commit crimes against whites.

First off, even in areas with substantial black populations blacks and whites are heavily segregated both in their neighborhoods and in the places they go for entertainment. So they do not mix socially that much.

Second, most parts of the country have few blacks. Think of this as segregation involving even greater distances.

Third, a substantial portion of black violence is among "intimates": i.e. family and friends. That's going to be heavily skewed toward black-on-black because the bulk of the members of families and social circles which have blacks in them are overwhelmingly black. You have to subtract off violence among intimates and look at the remainder. In that remainder the ratio of black-on-white is higher still.

I've seen reports in the past on what portion of violence is between strangers. I vaguely recall reading a few years ago that violence among strangers has surpassed violence within families and between friends. But I have no cite for that. Also, I do not know what the ratio of intimate to stranger assaults and murders are among whites versus among blacks.

We need more data to sort all this out. But because of these factors I'm not ready to buy your math.

Randall, I did mention exactly those factors and their role in reducing the proportion of black crime committed against whites,

If anything, my sense is that blacks commit a higher proportion of their crimes against strangers.

Likewise, segregation reduces the opportunities for whites to attack blacks as well as the reverse. If only half of whites are 'within range' of blacks for purposes of crime, then the white propensity to attack accessible blacks must be greater than we would otherwise think, along with the black propensity to attack accessible whites.

I agree that a really detailed picture of interracial crime propensities would require demographic data and a breakdown of crime for crime within social circles and against strangers, but my main point remains: it is misleading to cite the '64 times' figure in a piece on black anti-white racism as though the sole reason for it is racial hatred, failing to mention other relevant facts, e.g. that blacks have higher crime rates across the board, including against other blacks. The evidence does indicate a black preference for white victims, but there is no need to exaggerate it by conflating it with those other factors.

But as I see it you didn't break propinquity into its major components and therefore downplayed the extent to which one must consider it when looking at raw results. Here are some factors that influence propinquity:

- Segregation into regions.

- Segregation by neighborhood.

- Segregation by houshold. e.g. inter-racial marriages between blacks and whites are uncommon.

- Segregation by socializing. e.g. What bars one goes to.

- Segregation by business dealings. e.g. I expect black street dealers to buy more crack or heroin from black distributors than do white or Hispanic street dealers and black pimps to have more black whores on the streets than pimps of other races. So business disputes in illegal business dealings that go violent will tend to be intra-racial.

The important of the 'intimate crime' argument is that if blacks choose a disproportionate number of white victims to assault, kill, and rape then they do this in spite of all the factors I list above that ought to skew them toward attacking people of their own race.

Yes, lack of propinquity reduces white-on-black crime too. But as the raw ratios imply, blacks are attacking whites many times more than the rate that whites are attacking blacks.

But you are missing an important factor: If inter-racial animus is more intense among blacks then blacks might be committing more crime because whites are nearby to commit crime against. So your simple adjustment for the higher black crime rate is an error because the availability of whites (or other non-blacks) to victimize becomes a motive to commit a crime in the first place.. Speaking as someone who went to a mixed race high school where some blacks wanted to beat me up because I'm white this seems highly plausible. If whites weren't nearby they'd have had one less reason to feel the urge to go beat on someone.

I'd like to see a proper adjustment for some propinquity factors to try to get at how much of the black preference for white victims is due to hatred of or animosity toward whites. But it seems like a hard problem to pull apart motives.

Look at my post "Mad Max In New Orleans And Human Nature" and try to ignore the digression that a few people got into on the morality of calling some people "subhuman". I was trying to get at the question of how much crime is due to inter-racial animosity. I kept raising it. Someone finally coughed up some additional statistics. But I still do not know enough to answer the question.

Well, here's the DOJ data on interracial homicide, which provides evidence on the intimate/stranger distinction. Whites do in fact commit a higher proportion of their homicides against intimates than do blacks, with the statistical effect I mentioned above. One interesting tidbit was that whites are over-represented in 'gang-related' homicides relative to their overall homicide rates (whites also dominate workplace killings, presumably because of black male unemployment rates), while blacks lead in 'drug-related' homicide and felony murder.

If you had the time to control for confounding factors you could check whether black rates of homicide against strangers are higher in cities with higher proportions of whites. Unfortunately, disentangling those confounding factors would be very challenging and would not address differences at the neighbourhood (rather than city) level.

I guess it depends on where in the timeline you look to determine who is prejudise and who is not. During the 50's and early 60's, white on black crime was the rule of the day. A majority of whites would pounce on a minority blacks and terroize them with legal justification.

What happened at new orleans only highlights the truth that the blacks have not fogotten those times and payback will always be in the offering when law and order dissapear and emotionism rules.

But, whites have only themselves to blame. To tout the concept that whites are somehow superior to blacks on the social scale is to forget the truth of the past when blacks were the civilized minority and whites were cruel, hate mongers. I remember, during the LA riots started by white police beating a black man which was filmed, It took only one day for the stability of four major cities to come into question. I believe that if the blacks were properly provoked, they could burn down the majore portion of the United States in only one day. That is how fragil American civilization is. Hi, I'm a college student in New Orleans (yes, I am white, thank you), and what follows is being sent to many college students in the city. I don't know who wrote it, but I'm sure it's a local, and despite a humorous tone, it is blatantly true:

Things I have learned from watching the news about Hurricane Katrina on TV:
1. The hurricane only hit black family's property.
2. New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.
3. Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.
4. New Orleans has no white people.
5. The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.
6. When you are hungry after a hurricane steal a big screen TV.
7. The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans now the city is welfare, looters and gang free and they are in your city.
8. White folks don't make good news stories.
9. Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet.
10. Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.
11. Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid.
12. Damn, I feel so sorry for all those black folks.
13. Oh, and it is all George Bush's fault.

now that we learned that all reports of rape and murder were false, i wonder what all you racists have to say now.

There were murders and rapes. I was there. There were people of all races including African Americans who were murdered in the confusion in the city. I have lived in New Orleans all my life and I am sad to say that African Americans in New Orleans are indeed very violent and intolerant of not just whites but all non blacks. I lost my home and one of my neighbors, an elderly white lady, was victimized by African Americans in a hotel near the dome. We should not be anti black because of this. We should address the cause of their actions as a symtom of a much bigger problem, the cycle of intolerence.

the blacks had little to contribute to this. The Whites were really mouthy and trailer park trash they rape, millest and kill more than anyone. Im not taking sides i just tell it how it is.

stop all of this fighting if all of us white people would not have been so mean to the blacks then mabe their wouldnt be so much fighting. Hi i am an Irishman who was a tourist in New Orleans for a week before the Sunday when me and my cousin decided to leave our hostel and enter the Superdome. In the line into the Superdome it was pouring rain and we were one of the few whites in the line. We recieved no hostility whatsoever as we did not segregrate ourselves from the crowd and did not create a stand offish air. While locals had far far more worries about their home etc we didnt have as much to worry about. I was impresed by the ability of the locals to remain cheerful and relaxed which i found throughout this great city during our weeks vacation before the Hurricane struck. At home there isnt near as much friendliness as we found in New Orleans from the black population in particular, i remember one incident in particular when lost in the streets of New Orleans a typically friendly local just struck up a conversation and told me the directions to the streetcar stop i couldnt find. There is one thing i believe - the nasty situation in the Superdome could not have occurred in a better city with such a good atmosphere whereas i dread to think of what would have happened if the population of New York where all over in the city there are bad vibes and uneasiness.
The first man we met in the Superdome unassumingly sat beside us and this man a one legged black man who had all his belongings in a small bag was friendly,refreshingly optimistic and welcoming to white relatively wealthy tourists despite the fact that he had never left his own city. We decided to leave the uncomfortable seats and went up to a corridor on monday afternoon. We decided not to sit with the international group as it was harder to sleep on the plastic seats and also there was a very panicky atmosphere within the group. On the corridor we were the only non-black people on our area yet got no hassle from anybody. The man next to us was a black local boxer who upon finding that we were Irish laughed and said to his friend 'We have the fighting Irish with us!' We were more worried and annoyed and physically wrecked by the lack of water which we had to cure for hours to get. Once in the line for water i was feeling very very tired and thirsty . A black man with his young family must have noticed my weariness and while i felt pathetically weak to be feeling this way considering i was a young man at the age of nineteen , the man turned around to me and asked if i was alright then told me that his wife had some aspirin tablets i could take to ease my headache. The humanity displayed here just gave me enough strength to carry on and collect my much needed water. Even a drug dealer who stopped beside us when we were lying down on the corrider showed a sense of humour and politeness he said ' Yo Irish! Then when he heard that we didnt want anything off him he smiled and said thats fine dont worry'.
On Wednesday we heard from some internationals that we were going to be moved out and we were pleased to be gone as situatios were getting worse. We stayed with the international group in the basketball arena, the hotel and the bus up to Dallas. In fact, the only racism i encountered was from the Australian nationals we met. I dont know their names but they know who they are, one said ' We have to get away from these monkeys' and in our hostel two Australians stayed on in the hostel and warned us against the Superdome because there would be too many ' black monkeys' in it. Of course I am not attacking all Aussies as our leader Bud was a calm reassuring man and i didnt hear any racism from him. The awful violence which did occur in the Superdome would happen in any Western city and wasnt helped by the poor response from the politicians, there isnt another city in the United States i feel that would have been any better and the black people displayed no racism whatsoever to me and my cousin instead they showed us respect, warmth and humour.

i'm so glad most end up in containment housing, i only wish tax dollars didn't have to pay for it.

Remember, if a disaster hits and resources cut off, dont go where the black people are gathering. They use government resources to live and dont pay taxes or vote. They are what you call a "political zero" and are always going to be last to get aide. This would happen anywhere in the country. The second they see a window of "opportunity" they will go from displaced citizen to predator.

Found this 3 years after the incident while searching for Katrina photos as I have family that lives in New Orleans. Have to say all of the media reports of mass violence, murders, rapes, and the like turned out to be 100% FALSE. Too bad people are willing to believe anything, especially people who have a racial superiority complex. Have fun in your own little world.

I too just found this on the internet 4 years later. I was a San Diego tourist who was trapped in the Superdome and I joined with the Aussies and Europeans who were smuggled out to the Sports Arena after several days, and then to the Hyatt Regency nearby. Yes, we feared for our lives. Yes, we thought that the murders and rapes were going on, but no, they were not according to the National Guard and other law enforcement authorities, as there also were no shootings of helicopters at the Dome. No, we were not stepping over dead bodies. Yes, about 15 to 20% of the population in the Dome was white. Yes, most of the unfortunate inhabitants were law-abiding families. No, very very few people there had weapons or drugs, as the National Guard thoroughly searched us before entering.

Am I thankful to those including Bud Hopes who helped get us out early. YOU BET!!!! But that doesn't discount the false information that was put out leading to even more racist attitudes towards blacks in New Orleans. And where is the follow up accountability by the media to set the record straight? In 2008 my memoir, "Diary From the Dome, Reflections on Fear and Privilege During Katrina' was published. I encourage any media folks who wants to seek out the truth and also uncover what an incredibly powerful emotion FEAR is in controlling our thoughts and action to read my book.

Those left behind in the UK and their descendants are inbred, arrogant, socialist cretins. Oh yes, the criminals were sent to Australia...lying is in their descendants' genes. Take anything these Brit and Aussie tourists reported with very large grains of salt, exaggeration is understandable when one is out of their coddled socialist welfare state safety blankets. "First hand" reports by the British of the battles of the War of 1812, including of the atrocities committed by the Americans, were embarrassingly exaggerated even when compared to those of the Canadian militia that fought on their side! I have spoken to white North American (U.S. and Canadian) eyewitnesses that were at the Superdome; the accounts above, although titillating and great press for the UK rags, unfortunately bear little resemblance to reality. Look up how many piles of bodies were actually in the stadium after all was said and done (6). If all was so bad for these hunted tourists, how exactly did these Brit and Aussie survive unscathed to tell their tales, curious isn't it?
